F1’s newest circuit
Madring is a brand-new street-permanent hybrid circuit in northeast Madrid, built around the IFEMA convention complex. It debuts in 2026 — and is the second of two Spanish races on the 2026 calendar (Barcelona keeps the June slot; Madrid takes September).
Why it matters
The 2026 calendar is the first time Spain has hosted two World Championship races in a single season. The Madring deal is for a 10-year contract starting 2026; Barcelona’s contract runs through 2028. Beyond 2028, only one of the two is expected to remain.
What to watch for
- The banking — Madring includes a banked corner sequence (Turns 12–13) inspired by Zandvoort’s Arie Luyendyk corner.
- The fan atmosphere — Alonso fans, double-strength because his other home race (Barcelona) ran three months earlier.
- First-year track surface — new asphalt is unpredictable; expect grip evolution and tyre-strategy variance through the weekend.
