Haas is owned by Gene Haas, who made his fortune in CNC machine tools and runs a NASCAR team out of North Carolina. The F1 operation is unusual — design and engineering are split between Banbury (UK) and Maranello (Italy, working closely with Ferrari), and the chassis is built by Dallara. The whole structure exists to keep headcount minimal.

The team’s mantra has always been “punch above weight.” That’s worked in flashes — an unexpected sixth in 2018, a strong 2024 under new principal Ayao Komatsu — but the limited headcount and customer-everything model mean Haas always plays catch-up on car development through the season.

If you spot a black-and-red car, that’s Haas.
